Raising Funds For UK Veterans Mental Health

Considering the past year we have all had, never has it been more critical that we support all our veterans and service personnel to reduce the effects of mental illness. Feelings of wellbeing are fundamental to the overall health of our soldiers and veterans, and this need has become exponentially heightened due to the recent global pandemic. Arguably, this will cause the biggest change to the world for over twenty years, and we have all been adversely impacted. It is hoped that this extreme challenge will embrace the nation and help to bring about positive change, one that can have an impact on many for years to come.

Day Seven a Fitting Finish

Monday 5th July 2021
After an epic and emotional week long event, Sip earlier today completed the final stint of his challenge, accumulating a total distance of three marathons in a twenty four hour period. Faced with weather conditions that would faze a frog, he ran with courage and determination through the elements to reach the finish line. From torrential rain and thunderstorms to blazing sun, the weather followed the roller coaster of emotions felt by all through the last week, a fitting climate to end w...

Day Six and in Steady Waters

Sunday 4th July 2021
A marina on the Ripon Canal in Yorkshire was basecamp for day six of Sip’s mammoth challenge, traveling back to familiar territory for a twenty four hour paddle up and down the steady waters. After the heights and undulation of the last three days, climbing, mountain trekking and abseiling, canoeing and a more rural setting provided a more peaceful backdrop to todays challenge, an important one for Sip and the team to reflect on the scale of the achievement so far. At the start of this...

Day Five Scaling New Heights

Saturday 3rd July 2021
Day five reached new heights for the Sip and the team, putting the disappointment of Thursday behind them. This time descent was order of the day, with twenty four hours of abseiling at the Exchange Flags building in Liverpool city centre. A historically prominent building, used during the second world war as a command centre for marine fleet, it posed as the ideal base for day five, after a late scramble to secure a new venue from the Riverside Stadium in Middlesbrough. Originally pla...

Day Four Taking Its Toll

Friday 2nd July 2021
Day four ended with disappointment for Sip, as the team transferred back to Dishforth in the early hours of Friday morning, the second clockwise loop of the Yorkshire Three Peaks deemed too dangerous for him to continue. Despite the setback, he continued with the trekking back at base, successfully completing the twenty four hour challenge, and achieving a full loop of the peaks in under twelve hours. That feat alone is one that most people struggle to do with fresh legs, let alone after ...

Day Three Ends on a High

Thursday 1st July 2021
Day three ended on a high today, quite literally, as Sip smashed another twenty four hour long challenge, this time climbing a wall in Newcastle city centre. In the past day, the wall has seen a total distance climbed of 40390 metres, the vast majority of that distance covered by Sip. It was fantastic for the team to meet so many people, and we thank everyone who stopped by for their time, generous donations and kind words of encouragement. It was also great to let people experience the w...

Day Two Back in the Saddle

Wednesday 30th June 2021
After the undulating off road trails of day one, Sip mounted the saddle again on Tuesday for another twenty four hours, this time on road bike. By day he completed thirty kilometre loops of pre-planned routes on local roads around Thirsk, before returning to the safety of the airfield for the night time activities. In total he accumulated over 200 kilometres through Tuesday, up until midday on Wednesday, taking the grand total so far this week to over 400 kilometres, and that’s without sl...

Day One Done and Dusted

Tuesday 29th June 2021
That’s day one done and dusted with Sip in fine spirits, faring well physically and mentally so far. In the past twenty four hours he has covered a distance of over 200 kilometres, both around the Sutton Bank in the day, and back at base through the night. He now transfers to road bike with another full day ahead on the saddle, no doubt a welcome change after the undulating trails of day one. On Tuesday and into Wednesday, Sip will complete thirty kilometre loops on road bike, on a local...

Helping Veterans Like Piers

Wednesday 23rd June 2021
With now less than a week to go before the first event, we would take this opportunity to remind everyone, our supporters and those who are planning to donate, exactly the kind of people we hope to help by raising funds for Combat Stress. In the past decade, the number of military personnel who have taken their own life has doubled, with many more suffering from longer term mental health issues. There are many of us that have served on operations and have lost family and friends, and that...

Supporting Veterans

Supporting Veterans

Tuesday 23rd February 2021
Whilst we mentally and physically prepare for the endurance challenge later in the year, no doubt pushing Major Powers to breaking point, we won’t neglect to forget that our efforts are worth nothing without your support, encouragement and generous donations. Honestly, seven days of pain is nothing compared to what our service personnel and veterans go through daily, both mentally and physically, suffering in silence. This really is our chance to make a difference to those dedicated peopl...
